Chris McCormick

Zimbabwean born, and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Perth, Western Australia, Chris McCormick has been writing and performing electronic music since the last millenium. He started out writing tunes using DOS tracker software, and then moved to Pure Data when he started using GNU/Linux on his desktop in 2002. These days he writes tunes using a combination of Pure Data and ModPlug Tracker, both of which uniquely inform his approach to music making.

Playing live as part of the legendary, deconstructionist, video game inspired duo Chrism & Fenris, he coded custom music software for the Commodore64 and Gameboy Advance. Chrism & Fenris (homepage) use these tools in combination with effects hardware, and no-input mixer feedback techniques to create a sonic tidalwave of lo-fi electro vs. musique concrete. These days the duo live in different cities on either side of the Australian continent, so he hooks up with Fenris every few months to kick out the jams whenever they're in the same place at the same time.

Chris is also playing solo live performances now using Pure Data under the name 'chr15m'. He lifts genre-crossing electronic, dance, and 8bit loops from his ModPlug Tracker tunes and mashes them up with algorithmically generated elements and home brew effects units in custom built Pd patches. The result bounces from dubstep to 2-step to drum and bass and hip hop, and back again. It's interesting, experimental, yet danceable.
